You step out of a hot shower, reach for the mirror to shave or do your makeup, and you’re staring at a wall of white fog. It’s frustrating. Plus, stepping into a cold dressing area when you’re damp is just miserable.
That’s why we use shortwave infrared (IR) tech.
Most heaters try to warm up the air around you, which takes forever. Our IR emitters don’t bother with the air. They send energy straight to the surface of the mirror and your skin.
It’s fast. Really fast.
The secret is in the speed
We use quartz heating elements because they pack a punch. Because it’s shortwave IR, the heat doesn’t get lost in the air gap—it hits the target immediately.
You can go from a freezing room to a cozy, clear mirror in a matter of seconds. We’ve tuned these units for quick on-and-off cycles, using high-wattage tubes that evaporate moisture quickly without putting too much stress on the glass.
The nuts and bolts
To make this work, we use high-purity quartz glass. It has to be tough enough to handle the “thermal shock” of going from cold to hot instantly without cracking. Inside, we use halogen-filled filaments. This keeps the tungsten wire from burning out, even when you’re pushing it hard.
Depending on the space, we tuck these behind the mirror or mount them overhead. We’re very picky about the connectors—usually standard R7s or custom fits. If a connection is even slightly loose, you get arcing, and the whole thing fails. We don’t do “loose.”
A few things to keep in mind
Instant heat is great, but it’s intense.
If the mounting brackets or the mirror backing aren’t spot on, you can end up with thermal stress on the glass. That’s why we leave a very specific gap between the tube and the mirror—it stops hotspots from forming.
Also, a quick heads-up for the installers: make sure your wiring can handle that initial surge of power the second the system kicks in.
