We built this infrared dorm room heater around a simple idea: warmth that arrives quietly, directly, and with safety baked in.
What matters, technically
Infrared warmth doesn’t work like forced air. A radiant heater delivers heat the way the sun does—by warming people and surfaces in the room. In practice, you feel it almost immediately, without waiting for the whole space to heat up. Inside, we use a quartz-tube element for short-wave infrared, paired with a low-noise reflector path that keeps things close to silent. The unit plugs into a standard 120V outlet, draws 1500W, and covers typical dorm footprints up to about 150 sq ft. A built-in thermostat helps hold your set temperature, and tip-over protection shuts the heater off if it gets knocked over.

Keep it at least three feet from bedding, curtains, and other combustibles, and don’t use it in damp areas like a bathroom.
