
Why we’re ditching old heat lamps for high-IP infrared in the bathroom
Ever had a bathroom heater just… die? It usually happens because standard halogen or quartz lamps aren’t built for the steam. Moisture sneaks into the housing, sparks fly, and suddenly you’re shivering in a cold bathroom because the filament burnt out. It’s a pain. That’s why we’ve started moving toward high-standard waterproof infrared heaters. They actually hold up. The secret is in how they heat. Most heaters try to warm up the air in the room. That takes forever. Infrared is different. It sends out warmth that hits your skin directly. It’s like stepping into a patch of sunlight on a winter morning. You feel it instantly. No waiting around for the room to catch up. But to make this work near a shower, you need a solid IP rating (that’s just fancy talk for “how well it keeps water out”). We use IPX4 or higher, which means splashes won’t hit the electrical guts. We seal everything with tough gaskets and use alloys that don’t rust. This stops that annoying “burn out” you get with cheap units when steam settles on the element. A few things to keep in mind for the install. You can’t just slap these into any old ceiling. Because they heat up so fast, they pull a lot of power. If your wiring isn’t up to the task, you’re going to be tripping breakers all morning. If you’re putting in more than one, just give them their own dedicated circuits. It saves a lot of headaches later. The trade-off. Here’s the thing: these tubes put out a lot of intense heat. It’s great for drying out a damp bathroom in a flash, but the guards can get seriously hot. **Don’t mount them too low.**You don’t want anyone accidentally touching the unit or overheating the ceiling materials. Give them some breathing room. And while we build these to survive the humidity, your bathroom still needs a vent. You don’t want moisture trapping itself in the wall cavity.
