
Stop Letting Moisture Kill Your Infrared Heaters
Let’s be honest: water and high-voltage heating elements are a nightmare pairing. If you’ve ever had an industrial heater just… die… it was probably moisture. Whether it’s a stray spray of water or just heavy condensation creeping into the terminals, it leads to the same place: short circuits and nasty oxidation. It’s frustrating, and it’s expensive. That’s why we built our latest line to hit the IPX5 standard. Basically, we wanted to stop those failures before they even happen. What does IPX5 actually mean for you? In plain English? It means you can hit these units with water jets from any angle and they’ll keep humming along. We didn’t just slap a cover on them. We sealed the chassis joints and used heavy-duty gaskets to keep the internal wiring bone-dry. If your shop involves spray-down cleaning or you’re dealing with thick humidity, this seal is your best friend. It stops that dreaded “burn out” that happens when moisture creates a bridge across your terminals. The battle against fog If you see fogging on your gear, it’s more than just a visibility problem. It’s a warning sign. When cold, damp air hits a hot housing, you get droplets. If those droplets wander into the lamp sockets, you’re in trouble. To fix this, we tweaked the housing shapes and the way the unit vents. The goal is to keep moisture from settling on the elements. By managing the dew point around the heating tube, we stop the corrosion that usually eats away at the reflector surface. It keeps the heater efficient and, more importantly, keeps it alive. A few things to keep in mind Now, there are a couple of trade-offs. Because of those seals, the units are a bit bulkier. You can’t just jam them into a tight corner—double-check your clearancebefore you start drilling holes. Also, since the IPX5 casing is tighter than an open-frame design, it traps more heat. You’ll need to make sure your airflow is dialed in. If you block the vents, you’re going to cook the internal wiring. One last tip: follow the wiring schematic exactly. Make sure your grounding is rock solid. These water-resistant units rely on a clean ground to keep everything safe and prevent leakage currents.
