
Why Your Bathroom Heater Needs to Be “Explosion-Proof”

Now, “explosion-proof” sounds a bit scary, but here’s what’s actually happening. Imagine a quartz tube running at peak heat. Now imagine a single, cold drop of water hitting that glass. The temperature difference is so violent that the glass can literally shatter. Not fun. To stop that from happening, we use quartz with a reinforced internal structure or a protective mesh. Keeping the water out (The IP44 part)
You’ll see “IP44” on the spec sheet. In plain English? It means the unit is built to keep out bits of dust and—more importantly—sprays of water from any angle. Steam is sneaky. It gets into every little crack. If that moisture reaches the electrical terminals, you’ve got a short circuit on your hands. The honest trade-offs
Nothing is perfect. High-wattage infrared lamps are amazing because they give you instant heat the second you flip the switch. But they pull a lot of power. If your home wiring is old or under-specced, you might trip a breaker. It’s worth double-checking your circuits before you install these. Also, that safety mesh I mentioned? It blocks a tiny bit of the heat. You might lose about 3-5% of the intensity compared to a bare tube. Is it a bit less heat? Sure.
