
Picking the Right Wattage for Your Mirror Bathroom Heater
Here is the deal with mirror infrared heaters: they don’t actually heat the air. Instead, they send heat straight to you and the things around you. It’s a completely different feeling. But if you get the wattage wrong, you’re either going to be shivering or feeling like you’re standing inside a toaster. Around 400W to 600W is plenty. Any more and you’ll basically cook yourself the second you step inside. Now, for those big master baths (the 8m² to 12m² ones), you’ve got to scale up. You’re looking at 1200W or even 2000W. If you go too low here, the heat disappears before it even hits you. But be careful. If you go overboard, you’ll create “hot spots” or, worse, trip your circuit breaker because your wiring can’t handle the load. Why the mirror actually matters That shiny mirror finish isn’t just there to look pretty. It’s doing the heavy lifting. Basically, it catches the heat that would normally just drift up into the ceiling and bounces it right back down toward the floor. It makes the heater feel way more powerful without actually pulling more electricity. It works best when the mirror is angled perfectly with the lamp. A few things to watch out for during install High-wattage lamps get hot. Really hot. Make sure your ceiling can handle that kind of constant heat. If you try to cram a 2000W unit into a cheap plastic housing, you’re probably going to warp the plastic. Just give it some breathing room. And please, do yourself a favor: use high-temperature rated wires. Standard PVC can literally melt under the stress of a high-wattage heater. Stick to the recommended wattage for your square footage.
